Endovenous Laser Ablation of the Saphenous Vein

Endovenous laser therapy is a quick, minimally invasive laser procedure that leaves no scar, has a short and relatively pain free post-operative recovery period and is performed under local anesthesia. The treatment itself actually takes less than an hour.

The areas of the leg to be treated are anesthetized locally and a thin laser fiber is inserted in to the abnormal vein, delivering the laser energy in short pulses. The laser energy heats the vein causing it to shrink and collapse preventing blood from pooling. Your leg will then be wrapped in an elastic bandage for 2 days and you will be required to wear medical grade compression for 1 week. Walking immediately after the procedure is encouraged and normal activity can be resumed immediately. Patients may experience bruising or soreness of 3-5 days after the treatment. The benefits of ELAS include:

  • A simple procedure performed under local anesthetic
  • Minimally invasive
  • Minimal risk of scarring and post-operative infection
  • Rapid recovery with reduced postoperative pain.
  • Normal activities can be resumed immediately.
  • Excellent clinical and aesthetic results.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory phlebectomy is a procedure which allows for the removal of large varicosities through very small incisions that frequently need no stitches. Needle punctures as small as 1 mm are used to extract veins with a phlebectomy hook. A section of the vein is hooked and then removed through the incision.

With this procedure an ace bandage needs to be worn for24 hours. Medical grade compression stockings should be worn for1 week. The benefits of this procedure include:

  • In-Office procedure
  • Minimally invasive pinholes
  • Local anesthesia
  • No stitches or scars
  • No down time
  • Excellent cosmetic results

Spider Vein Treatments

Spider veins are the red and purple blood vessels that occur in patches on the legs and face. Spider veins and varicose veins are not the same and one does not lead to the other. Varicose veins are the large swollen veins and occur singularly on the legs. Spider veins are delicate and tend to develop in clusters.
The treatment for spider veins is called sclerotherapy. This is a technique which involves the use of a very fine needle to inject a solution directly into the veins. The solution causes the lining of the vein to swell eventually sealing off the blood vessel and preventing blood flow thereby prohibiting it from r-entering the vein. The 940 laser system treats smaller red spider veins in which a wavelength passes through the skin and selectively absorbs the targeted vein. The vein will disappear over a matter of time leaving the skin intact.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

This type of treament is most common for treatment of veins which are not amenable to laser closure of phlebectomy. The vein to be treated is visulalized utilizing ultrasound. Once identified, a sclerosing agent is mixed with air to create a foam consisting of tiny micro bubbles. The foam is injected into the vein and pushes the blood out of the way and completely fills the vein, subsequently closing it. This procedure is done under local anesthesia and has not downtime.

Medical Compression Stockings

Conservative treatment of varicose veins requires graduated medical compression stockings. These are also needed after vein treatments. We offer Sigvaris compression stockings for tired, aching legs, varicose veins, edema, venous leg ulcers, and post phlebotic syndrome. We offer a full range of stockings with in-house fitting and problem solving.
