Wisconsin Vein Center and MediSpa Celebrates 15 Years of Service!

Wow! It’s hard to believe that I had an idea that I pursued with the founding of this business 15 years ago! Wisconsin Vein Center and MediSpa was originally opened as Wisconsin MediSpa Lake Country, in September of 2002.

As a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, I realized that many people had problems with venous disease that was under recognized or not understood by primary care physicians. None of us had ever been taught much about venous disease in medical school, or even surgical residency. I had learned of the innovative endovenous procedures that had been introduced a couple of years earlier to close the culprit veins with laser. Everything could be done through just a needle puncture with local anesthetic in the office. I envisioned a population that would really benefit from the methodology.

As a woman, I also appreciated the advances that were being made in the field of “aesthetics” – a term that I had only learned 3 or 4 years earlier. Laser hair removal and light-based skin rejuvenation had come to the forefront within the previous 6 or 7 years, and there was very little available in our area. The Midwest was lagging behind the coasts, but I believed that eventually we would all get caught up in the concept of maintaining youthful appearance. I also believed in the true improvement of skin health that could be achieved through these new light-based treatments.

With these ideas in mind, I decided that I would venture into a new business – combining the medical issues of vein concerns with aesthetic concerns and open a “medispa”. I will admit that I didn’t realize the time and money constraints involved with opening a new business. I was a physician, and physician are notorious for being bad business people. I can tell you that the reason is that most of us were so engrossed in our medical training that we had didn’t learn anything about business. Nothing like on the job training! Those first few months, I hired a tutor to teach me QuickBooks and I tried to master the basics of debit, credit, and revenue vs. profit (of which there was none). I was determined not to fail.

Well, it took 2 years and a number of modifications, but we finally did turn a profit so that I could stop paying employees out of my personal funds. We grew rapidly, and needed more space to allow implementation of more technology. We moved into a beautiful new facility by the time we had been open for 4 ½ years, and 5 years later, expanded that space! We celebrated with a 10 year anniversary and the introduction of our partner business, Transform Diet and Wellness Center.

The reasons for our continued success have undoubtedly been our enthusiastic skilled staff and our fabulous patients! We try to show appreciation for those patients every year with our legendary “12 Days of Christmas Sale”, offering a different special every day.

We continue to find new offerings to keep present and new patients interested, always striving to only offer things that are proven but state-of- the-art. Some of our patients’ current favorites are:

  • AFT – Advanced Fluorescent Technology, our advanced version of Intense Pulsed Light
  • Laser skin resurfacing with fractional laser

Cheers!
