Cellfina FAQS

What is cellulite?

Cellulite causes a dimpled, lumpy appearance that the vast majority of women are familiar with. It most commonly appears on the buttocks and thighs, but can occur elsewhere. It’s mainly a product of the way that the female body stores fat— cellulite usually occurs because of fat and its interaction with the connective tissues in the skin. These connective bands pull the skin down, causing dimples. There are a lot of different causes for this, although it’s not entirely understood.

Why does it seem like only women get cellulite?

As many as 90% of women experience cellulite at some point. Although it may not seem like it, men can and do experience cellulite, albeit at a much lower rate. Estrogen means that women tend to have more fat, but women also have a slightly different skin structure that can contribute to cellulite formation. Their connective tissue is thinner than the layer of fat, meaning fat can more easily protrude through this layer. Thus, the connective collagen fibers keep the skin pulled in and cause dimpling. In men, these connective fibers are constructed in a crisscross pattern, meaning dimples are much less likely to form.

How does Cellfina work?

Cellfina uses an extremely-small, needle-sized device to sever the connective bands underneath the skin, releasing the tension pulling the skin down. Most other cellulite treatments available in the form of a product or ingredient won’t reach the correct depth to address these connective bands, making Cellfina one of the best cellulite treatments available. This technique is performed on each unique area so that you get customized treatment. A treatment session with Cellfina takes around 45 minutes at our office.

What is recovery like?

There’s no downtime associated with Cellfina, and you can return to your regular activities immediately. However, it’s common to experience some tenderness and soreness at the treatment area, although this resolves quickly.

When will I see results?

You’ll begin to see results in as little as three days, with improvements emerging over the course of the months and years after treatment. The best part is that results are long-term, so you likely won’t see cellulite reemerge in your treatment areas.

How much does Cellfina cost?

Cellfina works best when it’s customized to your unique anatomy and cosmetic goals. For this reason, we’ll tailor the right treatment for you and provide a full estimate of your cost during your consultation with our technicians.

What other treatments work best with Cellfina?

If you’re looking to reduce fat and eliminate cellulite with Cellfina, Emsculpt® is an excellent option. Emsculpt is FDA-approved to enhance the buttocks by reducing fat and simultaneously building muscle, making it an effective non-surgical butt lift option. Additionally, CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical option to reduce fat and slim many different areas of the body like the thighs or hips with specialized, fitted applicators. Both CoolSculpting and Emsculpt require a package of treatments the achieve best results, so you can tone and sculpt your favorite areas while you watch your Cellfina results emerge.

Why don’t over-the-counter cellulite products work?

You can find a long list online of the ‘best’ cellulite products and treatments that promise great results, and some might even have promising ingredients. Most often, they work by improving circulation in the treatment area, leading to temporary improvement in smoothness and appearance. However, there’s no viable way to improve cellulite without addressing the collagen fibers deep under the skin that contribute to dimpling. Additionally, compression or massaging tools won’t adequately sever these fibers. This makes Cellfina one of the most worthwhile options available, rather than over-the-counter products. It’s important to note that similar procedures like liposuction, CoolSculpting, Vanquish ME™, and Emsculpt cannot address cellulite.
