Our Favorite Fall Skincare Tips

What you do for your skin in the fall is extremely different than what you do for the other three seasons. When the leaves start to fall, it’s time to change your skincare strategy. That’s why you’ll learn five tips that you can use to ramp up your skincare routine this fall season.

1. THE IMPORTANCE OF MOISTURIZING

Our skin can experience a lot of damage during the autumn months. Not only does the autumn chill dry out your face, but your skin also constantly itches during this time. For this very reason, you will need to find a decent moisturizer. When you have a great moisturizer in your back pocket, this can protect your skin against the falling temperatures.

But you don’t want to have a heavy moisturizer, either. Instead, you will want to look for a moisturizer that’s a bit lighter for the autumn months. These products will keep your skin moist and protected against those dry winds. The right moisturizer for you this fall will vary depending on your skin type. Our skincare experts can make a recommendation, or you can browse our moisturizers here.

2. GET MORE THAN ENOUGH SLEEP

Yes, sleep has to become a regular and important part of your skincare routine.  Are you getting your much-needed beauty rest?

When all of us go to sleep, our cell turnover rate goes up. All this means is that your skin will start repairing itself. The levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, also decrease when we nap during the day. They don’t call it Beauty Sleep for nothing!

3. DON’T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN

While the levels of UV radiation isn’t as high in the fall as they are in the summer, this type of radiation is still present at all times of the year. Sunscreen will decrease the levels of UV radiation that you experience. Wearing sunscreen throughout the autumn months also lowers your levels of skin cancer. So don’t throw away that tube of sunscreen just because you’re taking sweaters out of storage. When selecting sunscreen to use, try to find a product that has a daily SPF of at least 30. We recommend Colorescience Sunforgettable Mineral Sunscreen Brush SPF 50, which is a tinted sunscreen you apply like mineral makeup.

4. GET A HUMIDIFIER

Buying a humidifier will not only help with the hydration of your skin. Since these products moisturize the air, your skin will also benefit.

5. HYDRATE

Drinking more water is a tip that tends to be one that is given out often by skincare experts. As Wisconsin turns colder, your skin can start to dry out over time. When you drink more water, the elasticity in your skin improves. You can always keep wrinkles away with hydration. Plus, increased hydration can help keep toxins out of your skin.

Taking on fall skincare can get stressful if you’re not careful. But by taking care of your skin every day of the year, you won’t have to do much once the weather gets colder. To get your best possible skin, you can’t just worry about it when the leaves on the trees start to fall. Your skincare has to be a yearlong mission!
