One thing that many women feel uncomfortable talking about is sexual issues. This is not an uncommon problem to deal with. Many women feel discomfort during sex or have become uncomfortable with their vaginal region after pregnancy.

With Femilift, we can help our patients address issues with vaginal laxity, sexual sensation, and more. Dr. Joi Davis here at Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa works personally with her patients to help them feel more comfortable in their sexual health.

We were the first clinic in Wisconsin to offer this groundbreaking solution for improving sexual and bladder health. This vaginal laser, painlessly resurfaces vaginal mucosa over 3 short monthly treatments. Collagen and blood flow is stimulated to reverse the unpleasant side effects of hormone loss. Vaginal tissue becomes tighter, thicker, stronger and more hydrated.

Dr Joi Davis is a 30-year career gynecologist and loves to help women comfortably and confidently resume sexual relationships. Many women also experience improvements in bladder symptoms.

More About Femilift in Greater Milwaukee

Femilift is an FDA approved pixel CO2 laser for vaginal use. It can be used for women with vaginal dryness, mild to moderate vaginal laxity, and mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence. It can also enhance sexual sensation for both partners by tightening the vaginal walls. This treatment is great for women who feel discomfort during sex and thus don’t enjoy the experience. It is a beneficial treatment to help women who are suffering self-esteem issues and low sexual desire due to their discomfort.

How FemiLift Works

Femilift works by superficially burning and heating the vaginal tissue, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. This increases the tone and elasticity of the vaginal tissue. Unlike surgery, it is painless and non-invasive. It is performed in an outpatient setting with no downtime. Patients will notice increased blood flow, lubrication, and tightness of the vagina

Any woman who wants to improve vaginal lubrication, sexual satisfaction and or mild to moderate urinary stress incontinence (from laughing, sneezing, coughing, some exercise). This is great alternative for women wanting to avoid use of estrogen or surgery. Femilift is an excellent alternative to medical or surgical treatments and a low risk solution for improving quality of life for common issues. Laser treatments can be used to ‘supercharge’ other modalities for pelvic health, such as physical therapy, hormones, or surgery. This procedure requires careful patient selection and knowledge of pelvic anatomy and surgical or medical treatment options. Dr. Davis’s 30-year career as a gynecologist ensures that you are getting an expert opinion on the best treatment modality for your symptoms.

FAQs

Check out these frequently asked questions about Femilift.

WHAT PREPARATIONS ARE NECESSARY BEFORE STARTING TREATMENTS WITH FEMILIFT?

You should have a routine pelvic exam and Pap smear that is normal and up to date according to current guidelines and personal history. You should not have any active vaginal infections, including HSV or HPV, at the time of treatment.  Report any history of vaginal infections.   Abnormal vaginal bleeding needs to be evaluated. The procedure is not performed during pregnancy or active menstruation.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Most patients report NO side effects during or after the treatment. Some women may experience a mucous discharge for up to a week after the procedure.  You should report any heavy vaginal bleeding or unusual changes.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The procedure itself only takes 10-15 minutes and requires no downtime.  The effects to the vagina and bladder vary from woman to woman, but usually lasts 1 year or longer.

WHEN WILL RESULTS BE NOTICED?

Most patients sense tighter vaginal walls, improved lubrication and less urine leakage almost immediately after the 1st or 2nd procedure. However, the repair process continues for weeks following the Femilift treatments.  As with other laser procedures, collagen remodeling continues to rejuvenate tissue up to 4-6 months after treatment.

ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS?

There is no downtime. Routine physical activity and exercise can be immediately resumed following Femilift treatment. Tampons and intercourse should be avoided for 3 days following the treatment.

CAN THE FEMILIFT PROCEDURE BE PERFORMED WHILE TAKING OR USING ANY FORM OF BIRTH CONTROL?

Yes. It can be performed with all types of birth control including coils, implants or IUD. It can also be performed after a hysterectomy.

Who is a good candidate for FemiLift Treatment?

Women who experience painful sex due to vaginal dryness are the best candidates for this procedure, expecially when traditional treatment options fail. In addition, women who notice vaginal laxity and urinary incontinence and want to avoid surgery, can benefit from FemiLift.

How do I prepare for a FemiLift Treatment?

*It is recommended that you have an up to date gyn exam and pap smear. The procedure will not be performed if you have an active infection, including HPV and HSV (herpes). If you have a history of recurrent HSV, prophylaxis can be prescribed.

How many FemiLift treatments are needed?

The best results are after a series of 3 monthly treatments, even though most women notice improvement after the first treatment. The monthly stacking of treatments over 3-4 months has been shown to have the best improvement in blood flow and collagen formation.

How long does the FemiLift last?

Most patients have improvement in their symptoms that may last up to 18-24 months. The current guidelines are to perform a yearly single touch-up treatment for optimal results. When addressing vaginal laxity or bladder symptoms, sometimes a shorter interval between touch-ups may be needed.

Is the FemiLift treatment permanent?

Because we are fighting the effect of aging, results are not permanent but there are maintenance options that can extend the beneficial effects.

What can I expect after the FemiLift?

The procedure is very tolerable and recovery is generally uneventful. Most women experience a watery vaginal discharge for several days after the treatment. Some women notice mild cramping or vaginal bleeding. A few women have reported feeling feverish for up to 1 day which can be managed with tylenol or ibuprofen. You can return to regular activities the same day as the procedure, however, you should avoid intercourse and vaginal insertions for 3 days.

When can I resume sex after the procedure?

You should wait 3 days for sexual intercourse. If the treatment is being performed for painful sex, we encourage regular intercourse after the 3 day abstinence to continue to stimulate blood flow and elastin formation.

Does FemiLift help with prolapse/vaginal laxity?

Using higher energy during the procedure can create 20-25% tightening of the vaginal walls. This is helpful for women with mild-moderate prolapse symptoms and urinary incontinence. Many women are using this to prevent or in place of bladder prolapse surgery and to improve sensation during sex.

How effective is FemiLift?

Most women (and their partners) are extremely satisfied after the procedure. Results can be noted as soon as the first treatment, but maximal effects take 4-6 months. Vaginal dryness and painful sex have the highest satisfaction rating. Bladder and laxity symptoms are improved in 70-75% of patients.
