You’ve likely heard the term “spider veins.” They’re fairly common and are a problem for up to 70% of women at some point in their life. The good news is spider veins rarely have any symptoms associated with them, and are – for the most part – purely a cosmetic concern.
Today we’d like to address a question some people have about spider vein treatments. When new or existing clients come to Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa in search of help with troublesome spider veins, we first meet to assess the situation.
Prior to treatment for the spider veins themselves, we often recommend patients have an ultrasound evaluation. By doing so, we can better assess how the veins beneath the surface are operating. In many cases, these veins you don’t see may be exactly what is causing the problem.
As we mentioned, most spider veins are simply a cosmetic fix, but in some cases, they may indicate underlying problems. During the initial consultation, we talk with you to learn more about your history. Things like discomfort or swelling in the legs, or the location of the spider veins, can be signs of underlying vein disease, but this can be treated. In these cases, the ultrasound is particularly helpful and critical, as it helps ensure we are taking the right steps for treatment.
In short, you’ll want to visit an expert in vein care if you want the best results when treating spider veins. Some facilities may offer treatments to minimize their appearance, but don’t have the right tools to get the job done right.
