Dermaplaning

Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa offers dermaplaning, a safe and effective mechanical exfoliation treatment which leads to fresher, softer skin.

Repeated treatments stimulate and rejuvenate skin tissue, making it an effective way to reduce acne scarring, uneven pigmentation, and fine lines.

Dermaplaning provides your skin with a smoother appearance by removing dead skin cells in addition to the fine facial hair that can trap excess dirt and oil and leave the complexion looking dull.

This treatment is excellent when used in conjunction with a HydraFacial or DermaSound, or after a skin rejuvenation treatment for a refined, finished look.  We also recommend Dermaplaning following certain laser procedures or IPL to help more rapidly exfoliate treated pigment that comes to the surface.

Demaplaning is a great option if you want to address the following concerns:

  • Small hairs on the face (peach fuzz)
  • Rough texture
  • Dead skin cells causing a dull appearance
  • Fine lines

Dermaplaning FAQs

How long does dermaplaning last?

The smoothing results of dermaplaning can last for up to four weeks. For more severe concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, you may need several more sessions for lasting results. You can help maintain your results by using the right skin care products in your routine, depending on your concerns.

Can I do dermaplaning at home?

Dermaplaning should never be performed at home. While the treatment process may seem simple, it actually requires great skill and knowledge of the skin. A surgical blade is required for the safest, most effective results and a delicate motion must be used to protect your skin. Dermaplaning should only be performed by a professional aesthetician in the office.

How is dermaplaning different from microdermabrasion?

While dermaplaning and microdermabrasion can both target rough, dull skin, the two treatments are very different. Microdermabrasion uses a gentle sanding motion to remove dead skin cells, while dermaplaning gently scrapes dead skin cells away. Dermaplaning also addresses facial hairs, while microdermabrasion does not. Dermaplaning can be done on sensitive skin that could be irritated by microdermabrasion.

How often should dermaplaning be done?

Because dermaplaning is so gentle on the skin, it can be performed regularly to maintain your smooth skin. We recommend dermaplaning once a month, giving the skin about 20 days between treatments. You can begin to see more improvements to your skin after several sessions, especially when it comes to deeper concerns like fine lines.

When does hair grow back after dermaplaning?

The time it takes for your hair to grow back will vary, but results can last for several weeks. Dermaplaning cuts the hair more closely than shaving, allowing long-lasting smoothness. Maintenance sessions can be performed to remove hair growth.

What products should I use after dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning allows for more effective absorption of skin care products. The products you use will be based on your skin concerns but should contain vitamins and antioxidants to maintain your youthful glow. We will meet with you to determine which skin care products you should add to your routine to optimize your dermaplaning results.

Is dermaplaning the same as shaving?

Dermaplaning is not the same as shaving. Both techniques cut the hair at an angle to protect the skin. However, dermaplaning only uses one, thin surgical blade, while shaving uses 2-3 stacked blades. Dermaplaning is gentler than shaving, reducing your risk of razor burn.

Is there downtime after dermaplaning?

There is no required downtime after dermaplaning. You might experience some redness, but this is mild and should resolve quickly. You can enjoy smoother, more even skin immediately after dermaplaning treatment.

Is dermaplaning painful?

Dermaplaning is completely noninvasive and comfortable. The dermaplaning blade will be gently glided across the skin, never breaking the surface or using any kind of abrasive tools. No numbing cream or downtime is required with treatment.
