As skincare professionals, we see it time and time again. So many younger women don’t believe that they have to worry about a skincare regimen, let alone an antiaging one! However, the key to preventing wrinkles and fine lines is starting early on. There are a few things you should be doing to take care of your skin even in your early 20s.
FIGURE OUT YOUR SKIN TYPE
First, pay close attention to your skin type. Is it oily, dry, or a combination of both? You’ll then want to find products that are specifically formulated for your own skin type. When you use the products that cater to your special skin issues, your skin will stay healthier overall.
WASH YOUR FACE
There is a cardinal rule that people should follow as soon as possible, even in their teens. Never go to sleep without washing your face. You need to wash off all of your makeup, as well as any oil and grime from the day. Before you go to bed, cleanse your face with a face wash specifically for your skin type so as not to overdry or cause other issues. You should also use a serum that has anti-aging properties in it before you apply moisturizer. Our staff can help you find products that are best for both your age and skin type.
DON’T OVERDO IT
However, don’t overdo it on the anti-aging products. If you are in your 20s, some products can actually cause breakouts to occur. Instead of using product after product on your face, concentrate on washing and moisturizing your skin every night. You should also use products during the day that are designed to protect your skin from the sun. This is why having a skin consultation with us is so important – we will help you find the right balance of products specifically for you.
GET REGULAR FACIALS
By getting a deep pore-cleansing facial, the grime and dirt that get leftover on your skin can be taken out. They can prevent acne flare-ups and will destroy any bacteria left on the skin. Plus, monthly facials will help prevent aging. At Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa, we offer special medical grade facials like DermaSound and HydraFacial Milwaukee that focus on cleansing, hydration, correction, and anti-aging. These are perfect for any age and skin type!
USE EYE CREAM
Your eyes are the first place you will have wrinkles. Always use a well-formulated eye cream around your eyes to keep the delicate area protected and well-nourished. This will help prevent fine lines from forming.
WATCH WHAT YOU EAT
Eat foods that are very rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants minimize cell damage and fight against aging. They are also great for your body as they are high in fiber and low in saturated fat. Choose leafy green vegetables, nuts, berries, seeds, and fruits.
ALWAYS DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
While we are all taught that eight glasses of water a day is the magic number, there really isn’t a one-size-fits-all formula. Consider downloading an app that will tell you how much water you should be drinking per day according to your weight and age. Whatever your magic number is, make sure that you are drinking it.
SUN PROTECTION IS CRUCIAL
Sun protection is one of the best ways to prevent premature aging of the skin. Always wear sunscreen when you go outside, even if it isn’t particularly sunny. Remember, the rays of the sun will still break through the clouds. Always reapply sunscreen often, especially if you are swimming or sweating. At the very least, use an SPF-infused mineral powder before going outside to protect your face. You should also always wear sunglasses whenever you are outside.
GET ENOUGH SLEEP
While you sleep, your body takes over and repairs the damages of the day. When you don’t get enough sleep, you interrupt that process and slow down your cell turnover. Yes, beauty sleep is definitely a real thing that you should always adhere to.
