Many patients come to our office asking if there is anything we can do to help with the appearance of little blood vessels around the nose and cheeks. Thankfully for them, we can answer with a confident “yes!” There are actually ways we can fully eliminate their appearance so they are no longer visible at all! To achieve this, there are a couple techniques we utilize.
The first is called a diode laser. This treatment features a special laser wavelength that is attracted to the little blood vessel. Using a very small, pinpoint laser, we trace out the blood vessels. Due to the small size of the laser, you’ll barely feel a thing. Patients report minimal discomfort with this type of treatment, and oftentimes you’ll see results in just one treatment. Occasionally we’ll need to perform a second treatment a few weeks later, but overall it’s a very effective treatment. Best of all there is no downtime and no scarring. Nobody will ever know you’ve had something done, except you’ll notice a vast improvement in your skin!
Alternatively, we can perform intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments. These are often a better choice if you have any discoloration in the skin, sun damage, or rosacea. This treatment uses multi-spectrum light to target chromophores – the pigment, either in the blood vessel or the darkness and discoloration. IPL treatments are generally performed in a series of three, spaced about a month apart, and work to gradually and safely fade the appearance of the veins. After the treatments are completed, your skin tone will be much more even!
We’ve found these treatments to be incredibly effective in the long term. If blood vessels do happen to reappear, these treatments are safe to be repeated if necessary.
