How Long Do Microneedling Results Last? – Microneedling Aftercare and Maintenance

Microneedling Milwaukee remains one of the most popular and effective skincare treatments available on the market. If you’re in the process of learning more about the right way to transform your skin, it’s normal to have a lot of questions. Although the best thing you can do is schedule an appointment with an experienced microneedling technician, there are some things to learn in the meantime. Here’s what to know about getting the most out of your professional-grade treatment and what you can expect going forward.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling can seem farfetched, but the technique has actually been around for decades. Also called collagen induction therapy, it works by generating tiny wounds in the skin that jumpstart its collagen response. As the treated cells regenerate and produce new collagen, it results in clearer, plumper skin and a reduction in concerns like acne scars, aging signs, or pigmentation. There are many different kinds of microneedling (like RF microneedling) and many different devices (like Skinpen®) but the goal remains the same. Microneedling rejuvenates the skin by stimulating new cell growth.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MICRONEEDLING?

Because of the skin’s regenerative patterns, you’ll need to return for treatment more than once. However, the number of treatments and the frequency to achieve your intended results will be unique to you. In general, it’s best to space out your microneedling sessions by 4-6 weeks, which gives your skin plenty of time to regenerate, recover, and completely absorb the benefits of collagen induction therapy. However, the number of treatments you’ll need depends on your goals. For your initial treatment package, you may need 3-4 treatment sessions to fully achieve your results. Once you complete this, however, you should plan on returning for 2-3 sessions per year to maintain new collagen growth and keep up your great results.

If your treatment goals include acne scars, you may need additional treatments. That’s because acne scars can be one of the most difficult skin concerns to tackle, so your microneedling technician can give you the best idea of what to expect.

HOW LONG DO MICRONEEDLING RESULTS LAST?

The short answer is, microneedling results last as long as you maintain them. After your first session, you’ll begin to see initial results within one week (like more even skin tone, reduced pore visibility, and reduced acne). However, your results will continue to improve over the course of the weeks and months as you continue your treatment package. Although you can enjoy long-term results with microneedling, they’ll begin to fade eventually – hence the need for regular maintenance treatments on a schedule that fits your goals. Your microneedling technician can give you the best estimate of when to return for your touch-up treatments so you can plan accordingly.
