Acne Treatment

//Acne Treatment

Acne is the term used to describe blackheads, whiteheads, pimples or any clogged pores that occur on the face or body. Most acne occurs during the adolescent years, but it can sometimes occur before or even after the teenage years.

Acne can often play a detrimental effect in one’s self-esteem because it hides the natural beauty of a person’s facial features. Normally, minor acne will come and go on its own, recurring more frequently during the years of adolescence and becoming less thereafter. Occasionally, acne can continue to cause problems for a person later in life. More severe cases of acne can lead to more serious, permanent scarring.

Photodynamic Therapy with AFT Intense Pulsed Light Treatments

We offer photo dynamic therapy activated with Intense Pulsed Light, which is extremely effective in reducing moderate acne due to hormonal imbalances, overactive sebaceous glands, and/or bacteria in teens and adults. This treatment involves the application of Levulanic acid (this is pain free), a period of rest, and then a session of intense pulsed light. The Levulanic acid (a safe acid naturally produced by the body) activates the bacteria to make it susceptible to light therapy and shrinks sebaceous glands so less oil and sebum is produced.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels use a chemical solution, usually an acid, to ‘peel’ away the top layers of the epidermis in order to improve conditions such as acne, irregular pigmentation, or wrinkles. They can range from mild to aggressive and, depending on the nature and depth of the peel, a significant number of layers can be exfoliated. This allows new, fresh skin to be exposed, creating a vibrant appearance, promoting a rosy glow or even drying up an acne flare up. Our clinicians will work with you to see what type of peel would work best with your specific skin type and acne issues.

Micro-Needling Treatment

Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for treating the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance.  The micro-needling treatment creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to naturally produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in improvement of the appearance of softer wrinkles.  Automated micro-needling also creates superficial micro-channels which can be used with topical gels, creams and serums to help improve the appearance of the epidermal layer of the skin.  This treatment is safe on any skin type, has a short treatment time, and has minimal discomfort with virtually no downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of a HydraFacial for acne?

The HydraFacial treatment achieves beautiful, glowing skin in numerous ways. It cleanses, extracts, and hydrates the skin in order to get rid of dead skin cells, open pores, and remove impurities that cause blemishes. A huge benefit of HydraFacial is that it is gentle enough to be used on even the most sensitive skin.  Plus, medical-grade serums and boosters can be added to help with specific acne troubles that patients face.

How often should I get a HydraFacial long do HydraFacial results last?

Most patients enjoy their soft, glowing appearance from the HydraFacial for 5-7 days, but having any of our medical grade facials done regularly, about four to six weeks apart will help maintain radiant, healthy skin. For chronic acne, regular HydraFacial treatments are deemed beneficial as they routinely open up pores and remove acne-causing bacteria.

How often should I get an Oxygeneo SuperFacial?

Patients typically notice an immediate reduction in acne and skin redness after receiving this 3-in-1 SuperFacial. Regular maintenance treatments can be scheduled every 4 to 6 weeks to keep skin optimized.

What are the benefits of a chemical peel for acne?

Chemical peels use a chemical solution to ‘peel’ away the top layers of the epidermis in order to improve many skin concerns, including acne.  This allows new, fresh skin to be uncovered, drying up an acne and helping skin feel refreshed and radiant.

How often should I get a chemical peel?

Depending on your skin concerns and type of acne and acne scarring, regular chemical peels may be recommended for optimal skin health and for acne-free skin.  How often you get a chemical peel is determined by both your skin type and the depth of chemical peel done.  The medical aestheticians at Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa can help you decide what peels are best for your skin.

What are the benefits of a MicroNeedling or Genius RF (Radio Frequency) Treatment for acne?

Both our MicroNeedling and Genius RF treatments provide an excellent option for acne issues by jumpstarting your skin’s natural collagen production. Both treatments create many micro channels in the skin, causing the skin to create new, healthy cells.  The Genius RF also uses Radio Frequency, which boosts the effects of traditional microneedling.  Your clinician can help you determine which of these two treatments will work best for your acne and acne scarring issues.

How deep should Microneedling or Genius RF be for acne scars?

Our team will customize your microneedling treatment for your individual concerns. Shallow acne scars may need to be treated with a different depth than deep acne scars. Our team will examine your skin and go over your lifestyle to customize the microneedling treatment for you.  Acne scars can also be treated with Genius RF (Radio Frequency). By combining radiofrequency energy with the effects of microneedling, the Genius RF treatment creates new collagen and elastin. This improves skin texture, tightens tissues, and aids in acne scar reduction.

How long does it take to heal from Microneedling or Genius RF?

There is very little downtime after these treatments. The skin may be red and appear inflamed for up to 48 hours post-treatment. You should be careful to avoid direct sunlight, harsh heat, and intense exercise for a few days while the skin heals.

How often should I get microneedling or Genius RF (RadioFrequency)?

The number of treatments needed will vary depending on your specific needs. Most patients get two-to-four treatments that are spaced about four to six weeks apart. Patients will notice immediate improvement in their skin, however, with Genius RF it can take up to three months to see the most dramatic results as the collagen is being rebuilt.  A series of either of these treatments provides greater results.

What is best for acne treatment?

The best treatment for acne is highly individualized. Depending on your skin type, acne type, and lifestyle, the best treatment will vary. It is also highly important to maintain any of your acne treatments by using the medical grade skin care products recommended by your clinician.  To find the best treatments and products for you, meet with our Patient Care Coordinator or one of our medical aestheticians at Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa.

How can I clear up acne fast?

There are different ways to treat acne and try to get rid of it quickly. You can use retinol cream or products containing Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid. The rate at which your acne dissipates is highly dependent on individual factors. By meeting with our team at Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa, we can examine your skin and find the best treatment for you.

What foods cause acne?

Eating a healthy, nutritious diet is great for your skin health as well as overall health. Foods to avoid if you are acne-prone are sugar, dairy, and gluten. There are certain components in these products that can heighten inflammation in the skin.
