Millions of women in the United States are affected by hormone imbalances. If you have hormone levels that are out of balance you could be suffering from a range of problems with menopause, thyroid dysfunction, and hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). At Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa, Dr. Joi Davis provides medical care for women suffering from hormone imbalance by creating a personalized bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for their unique circumstances.

The main issues that women face when having imbalanced hormones are menopause, thyroid disorders, and low sexual desire. When going through menopause, middle-aged women frequently suffer from many annoying or debilitating symptoms. Knowing there’s a solution readily available in Milwaukee to help alleviate some of the side effects of menopause means that more and more women are turning to bioidentical hormone therapy at this stage of life.

More About BHRT in Greater Milwaukee

Women suffering from hormone imbalance issues can be good candidates for bioidentical hormone therapy. Dr. Davis will consult with you and learn about your symptoms, concerns, lifestyle, and desires so that she can choose the right dosage and treatment option for you. We take women’s health very seriously and will spend extensive time working with you personally to make sure your needs are met.

Women are far more likely to develop thyroid disorders than men. The thyroid impacts many daily functions of the body such as sleep cycles, appetite, metabolism, and more. If a thyroid disorder goes untreated it can put women at risk for other, more serious diseases. More women are now turning to bioidentical hormone therapy to help their thyroid disorder. Hormonal imbalances also play a role in sexual desire and experience. Many women may experience vaginal dryness or pain during sex, but a loss of wanting to have sex also occurs. This is known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder. Imbalanced hormones can lead to this, so bioidentical hormone therapy has been shown to be an effective treatment.

How Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy Works

Dr. Davis at Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa can choose the right dosage and hormone form for your concerns and your lifestyle. Since the hormones have identical structures to natural hormones, the body recognizes them and treats them as its own hormones. Hormones control a wide variety of bodily functions by signaling to chemical messengers various conditions that may be affecting a person, including stress level, uterine health, and other vital systems. By bringing your hormones back into balance with compounded bioidentical hormones (a tailored blend of multiple hormones), we can help your body stabilize and reclaim your normal lifestyle.

For bioidentical hormone therapy, we use hormones that are biologically identical to the natural hormones that the human body makes. Since the chemical structures of the hormones being used are identical to natural ones, the body recognizes these as familiar and reacts to them in natural ways. These synthetic hormones are derived from plant estrogens.

The most commonly replicated hormones used in hormone replacement therapies are estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Bioidentical hormones can come in various forms such as pills, patches, creams, gels, & injections.  Depending on the specific needs of the individual, the dosage of the hormones will vary.

FAQs

Does insurance cover vaginal rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a term used to describe multiple procedures used to improve the appearance or function of the vagina and surrounding tissues. These are not usually covered by health insurance, but some women have been able to use their health saving accounts (HSA) or flexible spending to cover the costs when a medical diagnosis, such as urinary incontinence or vaginal atrophy is treated. At WVCM, we offer FemiLift laser for mild urinary incontinence, vaginal laxity and vaginal atrophy.

how long does vaginal rejuvenation last?

The FemiLift laser usually lasts 1-2 years. The usual treatment protocol is 3 monthly treatments followed by single yearly maintenance procedures.

what determines if you are a good candidate for laser vaginal rejuvenation or if you need surgery?

FemiLift laser is used to treat vaginal atrophy, painful sex, and mild-moderate bladder changes due to menopause (called GSM, or genito-urinary syndrome of menopause). Laser procedures are also used for symptoms of mild-moderate vaginal laxity. Surgery may be indicated for moderate to severe vaginal or pelvic prolapse - such as cystocele, rectocele, uterine prolapse. Bladder slings are used for severe urinary incontinence.

what does vaginal rejuvenation do?

Vaginal rejuvenation is the term used to describe the return of the vaginal tissue to a more youthful, functional state. This includes invasive surgery as well as minimally invasive procedures like the FemiLift laser. Vaginal lasers stimulate new collagen and elastin growth, and increase blood flow to the vagina which improves strength, elasticity and lubrication to the tissues. Vaginal rejuvenation is also used to describe more invasive surgical procedures which are performed to tighten the vaginal and labial tissue. Surgical procedures are more costly, have higher risks and longer recovery.

what is the healing time after a vaginal rejuvenation?

There is minimal downtime after the FemiLift procedure. You should not insert tampons or have intercourse for 2-3 days after the procedure to allow tissue healing. You may also notice a watery mucus discharge or light bleeding for several days after the procedure as the tissue recovers. Rarely, some women notice a mild fever for a few hours which is relieved with over-the-counter analgesics (eg tylenol, ibuprofen). The maximum effect is usually noticed by 4-6 months after the first procedure.

how much does vaginal rejuvenation cost?

The initial FemiLift procedure is a series of 3 monthly treatments, which cost $1950. Single touch-up maintenance treatments are $650 (These prices are current as of 2020 and could change in the future)

what is the best non surgical vaginal rejuvenation?

There are several types of devices used for vaginal rejuvenation which use energy to ablate or heat the vaginal tissue to stimulate new collagen growth. The FemiLift laser is able to both ablate and heat the vaginal tissue which allows versatility to improve multiple symptoms that occur with aging - vaginal dryness, laxity and bladder leakage.

what is vaginal rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation describes any procedure that is used to return the vaginal or labial tissue back to a more youthful state. Minimally invasive procedures, like the FemiLift laser, are used to create a thicker, healthier vaginal wall by stimulating new growth of collagen, elastin, and blood flow.

how does vaginal rejuvenation work?

The FemiLift laser uses well known aesthetic technology to resurface or rejuvenate the vaignal tissue, similar to procedures that have been performed on skin for several decades. The fractionated laser is used to ablate and heat multiple small areas throughout the entire vagina which stimulates new collagen and elastin cells, as well as increased blood flow. This process thickens and strengthens the vagina to combat the negative changes from aging, childbirth, and hormone loss. Women notice improved lubrication and less pain during sex. By strengthening the vaginal tissue, women also experience improved bladder function and less leakage of urine. They (and their partners!) also often notice improved sensation during sex.

how is vaginal rejuvenation done?

At WVCM, the procedure is performed by an experienced gynecologist. A topical anesthetic is applied to the outside of your vagina for added comfort. Your own personal sleeve cover is placed over the laser and then gently placed into your vagina. The laser is then moved around to treat the entire vaginal wall which usually takes less than 10 minutes. Most women experience no pain.

what are the clinical implications for vaginal rejuvenation?

At WVCM, only minimally invasive procedures are performed. This includes the FemiLift laser, which improves vaginal dryness and painful sex. The procedure also helps improve bladder issues, laxity, and loss of vaginal sensation due to aging or childbirth. By strengthening the vaginal tissue, many women are able to avoid the complications, cost and recovery associated with surgery when symptoms are treated in the early stages.

why do women get vaginal rejuvenation?

When hormones decrease as we age, the vagina becomes thin, dry, and painful. After menopause, up to 75% of women will experience sexual and bladder symptoms due to this condition (vaginal atrophy, or GSM - genito-urinary syndrome of menopause). The FemiLift laser stimulates regrowth of collagen, elastin and blood vessels which are needed for protection and lubrication. The FemiLift can relieve symptoms of vaginal dryness, painful sex, pelvic laxity, leakage of urine, urinary urgency or recurrent infections. In addition, women who want to avoid surgery for pelvic laxity or urinary incontinence may also consider the FemiLift as an in office, minimally invasive option.
