Botox vs. Juvederm: Which One’s Better?

It seems as though there are a lot of products out there promising to help you recapture your youth.  From anti-aging creams and serums to intensive night treatments and face masks, all of these treatments try to deliver stellar results.  However, no matter what these treatments might promise you, they just can’t compare to the stunning results you can achieve with two of the most popular skin injectables on the market today:

Botox and Juvederm.

In terms of delivering results, both of these treatments are renowned for helping patients look younger.  Both treatments are easy to administer, and offer an affordable solution for clients looking for powerful youth-enhancing procedures.

But when it comes down to it, which treatment really wins out over the other – Botox or Juvederm?

Perhaps a better way to compare the two anti-aging injections would be to change the question – Which treatment is the best option for your anti-aging needs?  Botox and Juvederm are designed to treat two completely different things.  While Botox was exclusively designed to smooth away wrinklesfine lines, and creases (particularly in the forehead area and around the eyes), Juvederm was created to help provide volume and lift to specific facial features. Botox’s main ingredient is botulinum toxin, which paralyzes muscles to smooth the appearance of skin; Juvederm contains hyaluronic acid, which stimulates collagen production while producing a volumizing effect.

Ultimately, the best treatment for you will depend on what trouble spots you’d like to target.  For example:

  • If you have deep lines in your forehead, Botox would be the most effective solution. It works well to get rid of the vertical frown lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines, and the crow’s feet around the eyes.
  • Looking for a mini-eyebrow lift? Botox can also be used very successfully to raise the eyebrows, which can help mitigate the appearance of hooded eyelids.
  • If you want to restore volume loss from aging, lift jowls, and smooth deep folds between the nose and corners of the mouth, then Juvederm is the ideal treatment for you.

At Wisconsin Vein & MediSpa, Deborah Manjoney, MD recommends that clients start with Juvederm Voluma in the midface and along the cheekbones to lift the sagging skin, as it may reduce the need for filler in other areas.
